Lifespan Treadmills FAQs
Why buy a treadmill?
There are many good reasons to purchase a treadmill. Treadmills can improve your
health in the comfort and safety of your own home. They provide you with a safe and
efficient workout platform, which allows you to exercise your cardiovascular system.
Treadmills are known for being primary tools in losing weight. Having excess
weight can lead to many severe degenerative diseases such as cardiovascular disease,
diabetes, high blood pressure and more.
To obtain optimal height and weight, consistent exercise is needed. It is
recommended by many medical professionals that the best form of exercise is to do
cardio-
related exercises such as running at least half an hour a day. Make a commitment today
to have a lean, healthier body. Even if you are already in great shape you can
use our quality treadmills to maintain your physique.
What are the benefits of buying a treadmill?
Improve your health in the comfort and safety of your own home. Exercise whenever
you want, anytime daytime or night. You may even enjoy watching television or
listening to your favourite music while working out.
Women with children who are often unable to leave the house unsupervised will find a
treadmill useful and ideal for keeping fit and healthy.
Treadmills may also have benefits over outdoor running. Since treadmills are
generally used in an indoor environment, users may choose to run on them during bad or
unpleasant weather. This eliminates weather, temperature or terrain issues. Users may
also have the option of a virtual personal trainer, with all of our Lifespan
treadmills having preset programs to ensure a efficient and effective workout. A big
advantage of using one of our treadmills instead of running outdoors is the
cushioned surface. Treadmills can absorb up to 40 percent of the impact compared to
running on roads, which may reduce pain and damage to joints, hips, ankles and
back.
Furthermore, studies have found that an outdoor running environment can be
stimulated by raising the incline on the treadmill to simulate wind or terrain
resistance.

How loud are treadmills?
Our treadmills are relatively silent compared to other treadmills you find in the
market due a number of reasons:
1. Treadmills with a higher horsepower are generally quieter than treadmills with
lower horsepower. This is due to the fact that they are not strained when the
user is working out allowing them to run cooler and smoother than motors that are less
powerful. Another benefit for powerful motors is that they can be expected to
last longer without maintenance.
2. All of our treadmills feature Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) motor drive control
system. This allows our treadmill motors to function efficiently by reducing
power loss, creating less noise in a more economical motor.
3. Our treadmills fitted with direct current (DC) motors are quality motors that
provide a smoother application of power to the running belt when you begin to
run. Generally the advantage of a DC motor relative to AC is that it saves on energy
bills and provides a quieter workout environment.
Which treadmill motor horse power is best for me?
Treadmill motors are generally rated in terms of horsepower. Horsepower is the
amount of energy required to lift 250kgs vertically at one foot per second, actual
amount of work an average horse can perform on a continuous basis.
When looking at a treadmill’s horsepower consider the continuous horsepower (CHP)
which is the measure of the power of the treadmill during normal, steady operation
of the treadmill. Peak Horsepower (PHP) will not provide a good overall measure of the
motors power as motors will only operate on peak horsepower in short bursts,
such as when a treadmill is initially starting up.
It is worth ensuring that the motor is rated a minimum of 1.5 horsepower, 2.5-3
horsepower is required for running. There are many benefits to buying a treadmill
with a larger motor, as they run easier, cooler and smoother, as well as requiring less
maintenance and are more durable in the long run.
What is the difference between AC and DC motors?
Most home treadmills are DC motors whereas commercial treadmills may have both AC
and DC. You will find AC motors generally use more power and are louder than DC,
but are more durable on a heavy duty basis and will suit a commercial environment. DC
motors also provide a smoother application of power to the running belt when
beginning to run.
So if you are considering buying a treadmill that can save you on your energy bills
and runs quietly, make sure you invest in a treadmill with a DC motor. You will
find that all Lifespan treadmills use high quality direct current (DC) motors and very
efficient drive systems.
Why is shock-absorption an important feature in selecting a
treadmill?
Treadmills without shock absorption can result in damaged joints with wear and tear
on knees, hips, ankles and back. All of our treadmills have suspension points
that minimize stress and impact to your joints. You will find partaking running or
walking activities on our treadmills a comfortable and enjoyable experience.
What type of incline adjustment does this treadmill have?
At Lifespan we offer our customers a wide range of treadmills with both automatic
and manual incline functions. Electronic treadmills have a large amount of incline
levels that can be easily adjusted by pressing a button on the console. This can be
done during the workout, manual treadmills can only have their incline adjusted by
the user dismounting the treadmill and adjusting the height on the read end on the
treadmill.
What is CE certified?
In Australia, there are generally no real standards for treadmills. However we
choose to list our treadmills with an internationally approved standard – CE
certificated. We guarantee customers to have a peace of mind when selecting a high
quality safe treadmill. CE Certificated means that our products have reached the
European standard of quality that could be sold freely in the European market and many
other countries.
Our CE certified products have passed the appropriate quality assurance tests. These
tests are performed by a qualified third party, on both the products and the
manufacturing process. Even though it is a time consuming and expensive process, we
believe quality is one of our top priorities for our customers and will be
dedicated to bringing you the best on the market at competitive prices.

that parts are lubricated for a smooth operation. If you are unsure and require
assistance, we have friendly staff that will always aim to provide helpful and honest

Lifespan stationary bikes FAQs
Why buy a stationary bike?
There are many good reasons to purchase a stationary bike. Stationary bikes such as
exercise, spin and recumbent bikes can help users achieve their fitness goals and lose
weight without exposing yourself to strain on joints or injuries.
Training too hard in the beginning of your exercise program can lead to injuries and
may encourage you to quit because you may feel it will be too hard and not worth the
effort. By working out at a constant, regulated pace at which you cycle, stationary
bikes allow intensive cardio workouts while avoiding this common exercise mistake.
Small adjustments can be made as your fitness improves, which fine-tunes your
training intensity with increment adjustments of speed and resistance.
Exercise whenever you want, in the comfort of your own home, at anytime of the day.
You may even be able to maximise the use of your time by doing other things such as
watching TV or listening to your favourite music.
Weather will not be an issue, as stationary bikes are indoor exercise equipment.
Feel free to cycle away in an indoor, comfortable environment whilst being able to
simulate terrain challenges through adjusting the resistance to simulate steep
inclines.

What's the difference betwee a spin bike and an exercise bike?
Although there are a number of physical variations between a spin bike and an
exercise bike, the differences are subtle and will only matter to a serious
cyclist.
While exercise bikes have a ‘freewheel’ that allows the rider to stop pedalling and
‘coast’, a spin bike operates with a flywheel and a direct drivetrain. As long as the
wheel is spinning, the constant pedalling burns slightly more calories and improves
pedalling technique. This also simulates a more realistic cycling feel as muscles are
more effectively targeted during a workout.
Other than the flywheel and the drive mechanism, spin bikes allow users to mimic a
more aggressive riding position such as one used on a road bike, while exercise bikes
adopt a more upright seating. Therefore different postures will be the key
differentiator, and will be determined by personal preference.
What's the difference betwee a recumbent bike and an exercise
bike?
There are a number of differences between a recumbent bike and an exercise bike.
Recumbent bikes have completely different body positions relative to the upright or the
spin bikes. On a recumbent bike, you are in a more horizontal position, with the pedals
out of in front of you. This causes you to work your glutes and legs harder than an
upright bike. The downside is that it is less flexible with workout variations, where a
user using an upright/spin bike can stand up in the pedals to simulate climbing a hill
on an outdoor bike.
Recumbent bikes are generally more comfortable because you will be in a reclined
position with your back supported and legs out in front of you. This positioning allows
multiple benefits such as:
1. Riding on an upright bike for long periods can hurt your lower back or
buttocks.
2. The reclined position also suits and allows people with back pain to perform
cardio workouts without causing any back pain. Upright bikes can put too much stress on
the back while our Lifespan recumbent bikes have full seat with back support to
eliminate back strain.
3. Allows easy, natural form to maintain a good posture.
Users riding on an upright bike may slip into a slouched position, causing upper body
postural distortions from muscle imbalances. When in a reclined position on an
recumbent bike, you are forced to sit in an upright position, producing a better
posture.
What's the difference between a one piece crank and a three piece
crank?
Three piece cranks are generally stronger than one piece cranks.
All of our recumbent bikes are fitted with strong three piece cranks.
What's the importance of the weight of the flywheel on a spin
bike?
Spin bikes are designed to accurately simulate pedalling uphill with the combination
of momentum and resistance. The advantages of a heavier flywheel is that it provides a
more realistic feeling of travelling uphill, translating to a more intense workout. The
downside is that the heavier flywheel hinders the portability of the bike.
What's the difference between a chain driven and a belt driven
spin bike?
Chain driven spin bikes may offer a truer real bike feel.
Belt driven spin bikes are generally better, creates less noise and offers a
smoother and consistent workout.

Lifespan Cross Trainers and Steppers FAQs
Why buy a Cross trainer?
Cross trainers have helped millions of people achieve weight loss and fitness goals.
How a cross trainer performs this is through burning excess calories via cardiovascular
workouts, which can improve the strength and health of your heart and lungs.
Cross trainers exercise the lower and upper body by providing resistance to the
muscles of the legs, chest, arms and shoulders. Legs and arms move in a criss-cross
fashion, performing a total body workout to tone and strengthen your muscles. Unlike
treadmills, cross trainers are a perfect alternative as they don’t impact on the muscle
or joints as much, and will make working out enjoyable and worthwhile.
There are many reasons to buying a cross trainer. One of the greatest benefits of
owning a cross trainer is that you can exercise in the privacy of your own home, and
can be used at anytime whether day or night. At Lifespan we offer quality cross
trainers with tonnes of features at affordable prices.

Are cross trainers for me?
Cross trainers, also known as elliptical trainers have been growing in popularity.
If you do not prefer running but still want a good cardio workout, cross trainers are
perfect as they are the closest action you can get to running without the jarring. Its
motion involves a mix of cross-country skiing and slow running. It uses both your upper
and lower body unlike in exercise bikes or recumbent bikes where you’re just sitting
down.
If you wish to try out our range of cross trainers, be sure to pop down to your
nearest Lifespan showroom for further assistance.

How are steppers used?
A stepper machine essentially is a never ending, rotating staircase. The user simply
climbs the stairs for as long as their workout lasts. Handles are provided for balance.
Most individuals have come across stairs before so using this type of machine comes
naturally.
Why buy a stepper machine?
Steppers provide a good workout without putting too much pressure on your joints and
bones. It is a great way to exercise by lifting your body weight rhythmically using a
single leg at a time, and works to tone legs and buttocks as well as improving lung
fitness.
Which muscles are worked with the stepper machines?
The stepper mainly works the muscles in your legs. Main muscles used are the thigh
muscles but calves, hip muscles and gluts also get worked out. Within about a month of
regular use you should notice thighs and legs becoming more toned.
How are cross trainers different from other low impact cardio
workout machines such as the stepper machines?
An elliptical trainer typically uses footpads that travel elliptically under
operator pressure and poles that are operated by the arms and shoulders. The poles and
footpads are operated in sync with each other to provide a full body workout. The
margins of difference will be minimal but generally elliptical trainers demand upper
and lower body co-ordination while steppers only demand lower body only, and are easier
to use.
In terms of muscle workout, elliptical tend to work out the same muscles as steppers
and more. Given that there is the additional upper body movement, the elliptical
machines will exercise calves, thighs, hips and gluts as well as arms, shoulders and
upper chest.
